How card status changes are reflected in the kid view
When a parent or guardian issues a payment card through KiddyCash, they stay in control of that card at all times. They can activate it, pause it, or remove it entirely — and what they do on their side directly affects what you see on yours. Understanding how these changes show up in your account helps you know whether your card is ready to use, temporarily stopped, or no longer available.
This is especially useful if you’re a child in Nairobi using your KiddyCash wallet to pay for lunch, save up for something, or run a small kiddy business — knowing your card status in real time means no surprises at the till.
What “card status” means
Every payment card linked to your KiddyCash account has a status — a label that tells you whether the card can be used right now. There are three statuses you’ll encounter:
- Active — the card is ready to use for payments.
- Paused — the card has been temporarily stopped. You cannot make payments while it’s paused.
- Removed — the card has been permanently taken off your account.
A parent or guardian manages these statuses from their own KiddyCash view. You can learn more about how that works in the article on how to issue a payment card for a child.
How to check your card status
-
Log in to your KiddyCash account. Open the KiddyCash app and sign in with your details.
-
Go to your payment card. Navigate to your card by visiting your account directly at
https://kiddy.cash/kiddy/account/:kiddy_account_id/payment-card/:payment_card_id— replace:kiddy_account_idand:payment_card_idwith your own account and card identifiers. You can find these in your account settings. -
Read the status label. At the top of the card detail screen, you will see a clearly labelled status badge — Active, Paused, or Removed. No guesswork needed.
-
Check for a notification. Whenever a parent changes your card status, KiddyCash sends you an in-app notification. Look for a bell icon or alert banner explaining what changed and when.

What each status change looks like in your view
When a card becomes active The status badge changes to Active and turns green. You can now use the card to make payments — for example, tapping to pay at a shop or completing an online transaction in KES.
When a card is paused The status badge changes to Paused and turns yellow or amber. You’ll also see a message explaining that payments are currently blocked. This is temporary — your parent can reactivate the card at any time. If you try to make a payment while the card is paused, it will be declined.
When a card is removed The card will no longer appear in your active cards list. If you visit the card link directly, you’ll see a notice confirming the card has been removed. A removed card cannot be reactivated — a new card would need to be issued.
Why this matters
KiddyCash is built around trust between families. Card controls give parents peace of mind while helping children — and kids running a kiddy business — learn to manage money responsibly.
