How the dashboard changes after first login

The first time you successfully log in to KiddyCash, the platform does something intentional: it adjusts what you see based on what you have — and what you have not yet set up. This is not a bug or an incomplete screen. It is the platform orienting itself around your progress.

Understanding this helps you move forward with confidence instead of wondering why your dashboard looks different from a screenshot you may have seen elsewhere.

Before we begin

If you have not created an account yet, start with how to sign up for KiddyCash. If you have an account but are not sure how to get past the login screen, read how to log in with email and OTP first, then come back here.

Once you are logged in, head to your KiddyCash dashboard to follow along.

What you see on a fresh account

After your first login, the dashboard enters what you can think of as onboarding state. Here is what that looks like, step by step:

  1. A welcome prompt at the top. KiddyCash greets you and nudges you toward the next setup action — for example, completing your KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. KYC is the process of confirming your identity using a valid ID. Without it, some features like sending allowances or funding a wallet are restricted.

  2. Empty wallet cards. You will see placeholder cards where family wallets or kids’ wallets would normally appear. A wallet here means a digital balance — similar to an M-Pesa balance, but scoped to a child or a family group within KiddyCash.

  3. A getting-started checklist. This is a short list of actions: verify your identity, add a child, set up an allowance schedule. Each item you complete causes the checklist to shrink, and the dashboard gradually fills in with live data.

  4. No transaction history yet. The transactions section will be empty. This is expected. Transactions — including allowance deposits, school fee payments, and business subscription charges — only appear once activity begins.

  5. Muted badges panel. Badges are small rewards KiddyCash gives to children for savings milestones and good financial habits. On a fresh account, this panel is visible but inactive.

How the dashboard fills in over time

As you complete each setup step, the dashboard responds:

  • Completing KYC unlocks funding and transfers. A parent in Nairobi, for example, can then link a KES-denominated payment method and fund a child’s wallet directly.
  • Adding a child activates the kids’ wallet section with a live balance card.
  • Setting your first allowance schedule populates the upcoming payments panel.
  • Running a campaign or assigning a transaction code — features used by businesses and schools — adds those panels as active modules.

The dashboard is not one fixed screen. It is a surface that reflects the state of your account at any given moment.

Why this design matters

KiddyCash is used by parents, school administrators, and small business owners across different setups. Rather than overwhelming every new user with a fully loaded interface, the platform surfaces only what is relevant to where you are in the journey. This approach is explained in more detail in the blog post A closer look at onboarding in KiddyCash.
