How to Add a Child to the Family
Adding a child to your family in KiddyCash creates a dedicated profile — called a kiddy — that sits under your family account. Once the profile exists, you can set up allowances, assign tasks, track savings goals, and even offer small family loans — all from one place.
Before you start, make sure you have already set up your family account. If you have not done that yet, follow the steps in how to create a new family first, then come back here.
What you will need
- Your KiddyCash parent account (the account you registered with your phone number or email)
- Your child’s first name and date of birth
- About two minutes
Step-by-step: Adding a child
-
Open the KiddyCash app on your phone and sign in with your parent account credentials.
-
Go to your Family Overview page. This is the main dashboard that shows all the members in your family, your family wallet balance, and pending tasks. If you are not sure how to get there, read how to open the Family Overview page.
-
Tap “Add Kiddy.” You will find this button near the top of the Family Overview page, usually represented by a small + icon next to your existing family members. On some devices it may appear as “Add Child.”
-
You will be taken to the kiddy creation form. You can also reach this page directly at https://kiddy.cash/family/kiddy/create if you are on a browser.
-
Enter your child’s first name. This is the name that will appear on their profile and on transaction notifications. You can use a nickname if you prefer — for example, Wanjiru instead of a full legal name.
-
Enter your child’s date of birth. KiddyCash uses this to apply age-appropriate features. Children under a certain age may have spending limits or restricted features for their protection.
-
Choose a profile avatar. Pick one of the illustrated characters provided. Your child can change this later from their own profile screen.
-
Review the details and tap “Create Kiddy.” A confirmation screen will appear showing the new profile. KiddyCash will now generate a kiddy wallet — a digital wallet linked to your family account — for this child.
-
You are done. The child’s profile will now appear on your Family Overview page. From here you can immediately start setting an allowance, creating tasks they can complete to earn money, or setting a savings goal.
What happens next
Once your child has a profile, you can begin sending them their weekly or monthly allowance directly to their kiddy wallet — no cash handover needed, which is especially handy if your family uses M-Pesa or handles spending in KES across different locations like Nairobi or Mombasa.
You can also set up loans between you and your child, teaching them how borrowing and repayment work from an early age. Research consistently shows that teaching kids about loans builds stronger financial habits in adulthood, and KiddyCash makes that process transparent and trackable.
If you have more than one child, simply repeat these steps for each one. There is no limit to the number of kiddies you can add to a single family account.
