How to Add a Device for Push Notifications
Push notifications are real-time alerts sent directly to your phone or tablet — no need to open the app to find out what’s happening. When you add a device to KiddyCash, you allow the platform to send you instant updates about things like allowance payments, wallet activity, approval requests, and more.
This guide walks you through adding a device for the first time, step by step.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- The KiddyCash app installed on your phone or tablet (Android or iOS)
- An active KiddyCash account — whether you’re a parent managing a family, a school administrator, or a business owner
- A stable internet connection (mobile data or Wi-Fi)
Why This Matters
KiddyCash is used across Africa — from families in Nairobi tracking KES allowances to school programmes running on M-Pesa integrations. Push notifications make sure you never miss a critical moment: a child’s wallet is topped up, a transaction code is used, or a Smart Approval request needs your attention. You can read more about how approvals work in What’s New in Smart Approval in KiddyCash and get a deeper understanding in A Closer Look at Smart Approval in KiddyCash.
Steps to Add a Device
-
Open the KiddyCash app on the phone or tablet you want to register. Sign in with your email address and password if you are not already logged in.
-
Go to your account settings. Tap the profile icon in the top-right corner of the home screen. Select Settings from the menu that appears.
-
Find the Notifications section. Scroll down within Settings until you see Notifications. Tap it to open your notification preferences.
-
Select “Manage Devices”. Inside the Notifications screen, tap Manage Devices. This shows you a list of devices currently registered to your account. If this is your first time, the list will be empty.
-
Tap “Add This Device”. KiddyCash will detect the device you are currently using and prompt you to register it.
-
Grant permission when your phone asks. Your device will display a system pop-up asking whether KiddyCash can send you notifications. Tap Allow. This is a required step — without it, your device cannot receive push alerts even after it is registered.
-
Confirm the device name. KiddyCash will assign a default name to your device (for example, “Asha’s iPhone” or “Android Device 1”). You can rename it to something easier to identify, then tap Save.
-
Check that registration was successful. Your new device will appear in the Manage Devices list with a status of Active. You will also receive a confirmation notification on the same device — this is your first push alert from KiddyCash.
You can also manage your notification settings directly from your KiddyCash notifications page in a browser if you prefer not to use the app.
After Adding Your Device
Once your device is registered, KiddyCash will begin sending push alerts for account activity. To see all your alerts in one place, learn how to open your notification inbox. If you see a notification with a bold title or a dot indicator, it has not been read yet — follow the guide on how to read an unread notification to mark it as read and take action.
You can register more than one device on the same account — useful if you use both a phone and a tablet.
