How to Reset a Lost PIN
Your PIN (Personal Identification Number) is the four-digit code you use to authorise actions on KiddyCash — things like approving allowance transfers, sending funds to a kid’s wallet, or confirming transactions. If you can no longer remember your PIN, you won’t be able to complete these actions until the PIN is reset. This article walks you through exactly how to recover access.
Symptoms
You may need to reset your PIN if you are experiencing any of the following:
- You enter your PIN and receive an “Incorrect PIN” error
- You have been locked out of your account after too many failed PIN attempts
- You recently got a new phone and cannot recall the PIN you set up
- Someone else (such as a child or family member) changed the PIN and you do not know the new one
- You are setting up KiddyCash for the first time after a subscription upgrade and were never prompted to set a PIN
Causes
PINs are most commonly lost or forgotten when:
- A long gap has passed since you last logged in — common for seasonal users or school administrators in Nairobi who access the platform only at the start of each term
- A device change wiped locally cached credentials
- The account was created by someone else (for example, a parent or business owner) and the PIN was never shared with you
- Multiple failed attempts have triggered an automatic security lock on the account
Solution: Reset Your PIN
Follow the steps below carefully. You will need access to the email address linked to your KiddyCash account.
-
Open the PIN recovery page. Go to https://kiddy.cash/forgot-pin in your browser or tap “Forgot PIN?” on the login screen of the KiddyCash app.
-
Enter your registered email address. Type the email address you used when you signed up for KiddyCash. If you are unsure which email you used, check for any welcome or transaction emails from KiddyCash in your inbox.
-
Request a One-Time Password (OTP). Tap Send OTP. KiddyCash will send a six-digit code to your email. This code expires after 10 minutes, so check your inbox promptly. If the code does not arrive, check your spam or junk folder. For a detailed guide on handling email OTPs, see How to Verify an Email OTP.
-
Enter the OTP. Type the six-digit code into the field provided on the recovery page and tap Verify.
-
Set your new PIN. You will be prompted to enter a new four-digit PIN, then enter it a second time to confirm. Choose a PIN you have not used before. Avoid obvious combinations like 1234 or your year of birth.
-
Confirm the reset. Tap Save PIN. You will see a confirmation message and be redirected to your KiddyCash dashboard.
You can now use your new PIN to authorise transfers, approve allowances in KES, or manage your kids’ wallets as normal.
Note: If your account is locked due to too many failed attempts, the lock lifts automatically after 30 minutes. You can then follow the steps above to set a new PIN.
After Resetting Your PIN
Once you have regained access, we recommend reviewing your account security settings. To update your PIN voluntarily in the future — without going through the recovery flow — read How to Change Your Account PIN.
If you manage a KiddyCash subscription for a school or family, this is also a good time to review who has access to your account.
