How to view a family wishlist
A wishlist in KiddyCash is a shared list of items or goals that members of your family want to save toward or request. It sits at the family level, meaning you can see wishes added by you and by any child linked to your family — whether you are managing a household in Nairobi, Kampala, or anywhere else across the continent.
This article walks you through how to find and read that wishlist. Before you start, make sure you have already created your family in KiddyCash. If you have not done that yet, follow that guide first, then come back here.
What you will see on the wishlist
The family wishlist shows every wish item across the family in one place. Each entry displays the following information:
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Item name | The name of the wish (e.g. “New bicycle” or “School trip to Mombasa”) |
| Requested by | Which family member added the wish — you or a specific child |
| Target amount | The savings goal attached to the wish, shown in your local currency (e.g. KES 4,500) |
| Amount saved | How much has already been set aside toward this wish |
| Status | Whether the wish is active, fulfilled, or cancelled |
How to open the family wishlist
Follow these steps exactly. Each step assumes you are starting from the KiddyCash mobile or web app and are logged in as a parent.
-
Open the Family Overview page. If you are unsure how to get there, read how to open the Family Overview page first. This page is your central dashboard for everything related to your family.
-
Locate your family name at the top of the overview. Confirm it is the correct family if you manage more than one.
-
Tap or click the “Wishlist” tab. It sits in the navigation row beneath your family name, alongside tabs like Wallets, Allowances, and Transactions.
-
Review the wishlist table. You will see all wishes from every child linked to your family displayed in the format described in the table above. Wishes are sorted by date added, newest first.
-
Tap any wish item to open its detail view. Here you can see the full description, any notes the child added, and the savings progress as a percentage.
-
Use the filter bar at the top of the list to sort by child name, status, or target amount. This is especially useful for families with several children, each saving toward different goals.
You can also navigate directly to your family wishlist at any time by visiting:

Replace :family_id with your actual family ID, which appears in the URL when you are on the Family Overview page.
A note on wishes and financial learning
The wishlist is more than a shopping list — it is a practical financial education tool. When a child sets a savings target and tracks progress toward it, they are learning budgeting habits that last a lifetime. If a child’s wish involves borrowing from the family to bridge a gap, KiddyCash supports that too. Read how family loans work as a financial education tool and why teaching kids about loans creates better financial adults to understand how to use that feature alongside the wishlist.
