How to view your family account balance

Your family account is the central wallet in KiddyCash where funds are held before being distributed to your children. Think of it as a shared household pool — money sits here first, and you decide when and how much flows to each child’s individual wallet.

Before you can move money to your kids, it helps to know exactly what’s available. This article walks you through checking your family account balance for the first time.

What is the family account?

When you create a family account, KiddyCash sets up a dedicated wallet linked to your family profile. Every deposit you make — whether via M-Pesa, bank transfer, or card — lands in this family account first. From there, you allocate funds to your children as allowances or one-off transfers.

Understanding this layer is important: you cannot send money to a child’s wallet if the family account balance is zero. If you’re in Nairobi and you’ve just topped up via M-Pesa, give it a moment to reflect before checking.

What you’ll see on the balance screen

When you open your family account, the balance screen shows the following:

FieldWhat it means
Available balanceFunds ready to allocate to children right now
Pending depositsMoney transferred but not yet cleared (e.g. bank transfers)
Reserved fundsAmounts already scheduled for upcoming allowances
CurrencyDisplayed in KES by default for Kenyan accounts

The available balance is the only amount you can act on immediately. Reserved funds are already committed to scheduled allowances and cannot be reallocated until a schedule is cancelled.

Steps to view your family account balance

  1. Open the KiddyCash app on your phone and sign in with your parent account credentials.

  2. Tap “Family” in the bottom navigation bar. This takes you to your family dashboard.

  3. Select your family name if you manage more than one family group.

  4. Look for the “Account” or “Wallet” tab within the family section. Your balance summary loads here.

  5. Review each balance field using the table above to understand what is available versus what is already committed.

  6. To access your family account directly in a browser, go to your family page at https://kiddy.cash/family/:family_id — replace :family_id with the unique ID shown in your app settings under Family Profile.

Tip: If your available balance shows KES 0.00 but you recently sent money via M-Pesa, check the Pending deposits row. M-Pesa transfers typically clear within minutes, but delays can occur during peak hours.

Before you top up or allocate

If your balance is lower than expected, you may need to add funds first. See how to deposit money into a family account for a step-by-step guide on funding via M-Pesa, bank, or card.

Not sure how much to allocate to each child? The way you structure allowances can shape your children’s financial habits early. Common questions

Can children see the family account balance? No. Children only see their own wallet balance. The family account is visible to parents and guardians only.

What if my balance seems incorrect? Check your transaction history within the family account view. If the issue persists, contact KiddyCash support with your family ID and the transaction reference code.
